Brian Christiansen started Our Burnt Offerings after his once thriving Wood Flooring business tanked in 2009. During a very stressful time trying to provide for his wife and 4 children, he found out something about himself he never knew; he is a very talented artist. Already armed with a passion for wood work, he bought a wood burner and prayed for guidance and inspiration. God gave him
1 Peter 2:24:
“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross,
so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness;
“by his wounds you have been healed.”
Thus, the Tree Scene was born.
The Tree Scene is his signature piece, each one completely unique and one of a kind. And although he now burns it on many different types of wood, like reclaimed pallet wood, he originally felt led to use Poplar wood. When asked why poplar, he researched and found that the healing Balm of Gilead, found in the scriptures of Jeremiah, was derived from the resin of the poplar tree. So the wood, along with the verse and negative space cross in the center, makes the Tree Scene a symbol of healing and HOPE!
Brian then branched out and tested his artistic abilities with other types of wood and designs. He creates outdoor benches, beach signs, cutting boards, chalk boards, flags, and much more.
He has always had a heart for our military. His father, Donald Christiansen, took part in the Korean War. When he started creating American Flags, he wanted to make something that would honor those who sacrifice everything to help others; Military Troops, First Responders, etc. Thus, he decided to add a silhouette of heroes to his flags: American Soldiers, Policemen, and Firemen. And for every silhouetted American Flag sold, we will donate $5 to American Gold Star Families. Select the link to learn more about this incredible organization and how they help military families.
